Miami-Dade Transit (MDT) has completed construction on the Metrorail's extension of the existing Earlington Heights to the MIC.
Metrorail's new extension stretches 2.4 miles from the existing Earlington Heights Station at NW 22nd Avenue and NW 41st Street to its new MIA Station at the MIC's Miami Central Station. The MIA station and new service, the Orange Line, began operating on July 28, 2012.
Metrorail is Miami-Dade County's heavy-rail transportation system linking Kendall through South Miami, Coral Gables, and downtown Miami; to the Civic Center/Jackson Memorial Hospital area; and to Brownsville, Liberty City, Hialeah, and Medley in northwest Miami-Dade, with connections to Broward and Palm Beach counties at the Tri-Rail/Metrorail Transfer Station. The elevated rail line stretches 22 miles with 23 stations along its way.
